MMA at Senator Hedlund's Pasta Night in Weymouth

 

FYI - tonight MMA members Wendell Davis, Irv Evans, Rick Gleason, Joe "Sarge" Komola, Paula MacTooster, Elisa Mello, Tim Shea and his daughter Tara, Robert Verville, Christine Weaver, myself and long time motorcyclists advocate Bill Gannon, attended a campaign fundraiser for State Senator Bob Hedlund, at the Sons of Italy Hall in Weymouth. 

 

Rick Gleason presented an ABATE PAC of MA $250 check donation to one of our biggest supporters, Sen. Hedlund, as our 'thank you' from the motorcycle community for all the work and support Senator Hedlund has given us over the years.

 

If you don't have the time or desire to lobby for your issues - consider dropping a check in the mail to ABATE PAC of MA, P.O. Box 53, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.  Donations over $50 must be reported.  No donation is too small - they add up.  Maximum donation is $500.00 a year.

 

The Event was co-hosted by Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.  Elisa Mello and I took the opportunity to introduce ourselves to him and reminding him 'citizen-bikers' vote.  We spent a lot of time with him, explaining the circumstances of Brian Mello's death, the upcoming trial (2/26/08 at the Wareham District Court), and lobbying for his support of HB 1464, increased penalties for right of way violations.

 

We were also able to surprise Elisa Mello with a Beginner Rider Training Course Gift Certificate, donated by Rick Siegel of Training Wheels (www.TrainingWheelsOnLine.com).  Elisa had planned on learning to ride last year before the 3/24/07 accident.  She expressed her wish to take the course this year and ride with the MMA.  We thank Rick and Training Wheels for making the first part of her wish come true.

 

Senator Hedlund's office has secured "Nurse's Hall" for our 2008 "STORM the STATE HOUSE" lobbying day, Thursday, May 15, 2008.  The Permit application has been submitted to the City of Somerville, with our main staging area the Good Time Emporium.  Logos, order sheets and the web site are being worked on.  May 15th will be YOUR day at the State House.  Take the day off and STORM with us !  Senator Hedlund will be riding with us !
